I love getting comments on my blog posts! If you are a blogger, you understand this, no doubt. It means someone out there is actually reading what we have to say, right? And, not only are they reading it, but they like it enough to reply (or dislike it…but I’m thankful I haven’t experienced that yet). I was thrilled when I got a comment the other day about my Spicy Hummus. Not only did the reader like my recipe, but she nominated me for a Liebster Award! A HUGE thanks to Kelsey from The Sunflower Kitchen for the accolades.
This actually came at the perfect time. I’ve been feeling spread very thin lately with lots of stress…not to mention my kids have been trying every bit of patience that I have. It’s nice to know that I’m doing something right and all this craziness is worth it.
I just recently found Kelsey’s blog due to Vegan MoFo 2014 and have been reading it ever since. So, when I found out she was reading mine too, I was thrilled! I just love how Vegan MoFo brings all these awesome bloggers together. Please go check out The Sunflower Kitchen for some awesome healthy recipes!
A Liebster Award is an award given from one blogger to another to recognize the work they are doing. It typically is given to new bloggers trying to get their voice heard. The blogger that gets the Liebster answers a few questions from the nominator then nominates 5 more new blogs to whom they would like to pass the award. This award is a great way to recognize those that inspire you and pay the love forward.
I have nominated 5 more blogs for the Liebster awards and posed 10 new questions for them to answer, but first here are my answers to Kelsey’s questions:
1. What is your dream vacation?
I feel like I pretty much had my dream vacation just this past March. With 3 small kids at home, my hubby and I desperately needed a getaway for ourselves. We went to the Dominican Republic to an adults only all-inclusive resort. Our room opened onto a patio just steps from the pool which also overlooked the ocean just mere steps beyond that. We had the most amazing time lying there and listening to the waves while sipping on fruity tropical drinks with absolutely no sounds of children crying or whining! Bliss.
2. What is your favorite item in your closet?
This is a tough one since I rarely do much shopping for myself. If I’m being honest I would have to pick my extensive tank top collection. I know that’s more than one thing, but really they are all the same, just different colors. I am in love with the Merona tanks from Target (should I be embarrassed by that?). They are great in the summer on their own and also layer wonderfully under other shirts/sweaters/sweatshirts/blouses/jackets, etc. I swear it’s rare if 2 days go by without me wearing one.
3. What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I can’t say that I’ve totally mastered this yet, but I’m proud of finding that work/family/me balance. I’ve been a stay at home mom for a little over 2.5 years now and it was really difficult in the beginning to not let my kids consume me. It still is actually. But I think I’m finally deciding to make time for myself and actually putting it in my schedule (going to the gym, getting together with friends) and also “working” and reaching out to connect with other adults (via this blog, my local mothers of multiples group where I am newsletter editor and also part of the resale committee). So, it’s a work in progress, but I do feel a huge sense of accomplishment for getting this far and really starting to enjoy what I’m doing with my days.
4. What is your favorite way to waste time online?
Hands down, the answer is Pinterest! I am addicted. I use it mostly for recipes, but also holiday decor, fashion and home design ideas. I love drawing inspiration from all the yummy recipes I find on there.
5. What’s the best book you’ve read this year?
Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail
by Cheryl Strayed. I did not want this one to end!
6. Who is your hero? Why?
I’m going to answer this a little differently. This person passed many years ago when I was young and I can’t say that at the time she was my hero. However, looking back now, I think we would have had an incredible amount in common and I would have looked up to her for inspiration. I’m referring to my paternal grandmother. What I remember most about her is her huge backyard garden. I can still picture her and me standing at the kitchen counter…me snapping the ends off of just picked green beans as she cooked. I didn’t appreciate it at the time, unfortunately. I could have learned so much from her and I know I would have enjoyed cooking with her. Considering cooking and gardening is such a huge part of my life now, she very well could have been my hero. Here’s to you, Grandma T.!
7. What is your favorite food?
Gosh, this is another tough one. If I have to pick just one, I’ll go with tomatoes. Fresh from the garden, warm from the sun tomatoes! YUM!
8. What was your best Halloween costume?
I’m not really a Halloween dresser-upper most of the time. I did win an award at a Halloween party one year for my Cleopatra costume, however. It was for Best Couples Costume and I had Mark Antony by my side. LOL!
9. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Oh, so many. Seriously. I think I might have a noise sensitivity or something. The click of the turn signal, shuffling shoes, sniffling, the tapping of a pen, things rattling in the car, a clock that ticks too loudly, I could go on and on and on…..
10. What is the best thing about fall?
The cool crisp air…and the colors….and apples and pumpkins. Kelsey, WHY did you have to give me so many hard questions? LOL!
