Calling all tahini lovers! This creamy salad dressing celebrates tahini in all it’s glory. I love the slight bitterness it has. The citrus juice balances it out nicely, but it’s not sweet. If you prefer a sweeter dressing, you can add a tablespoon of pure maple syrup, but I love it just the way it is.
This oil-free dressing is perfect in the cooler months when citrus is prominent. So load up those leafy greens with this creamy Citrus Tahini Dressing and enjoy!
While I created this oil free tahini dressing recipe for salad, it could have so many other uses too.
I think it would be perfect paired with roasted vegetables – think sweet potatoes, sweet peppers, Brussels sprouts, carrots, and zucchini.
It would be also be delicious drizzled over sautéed greens with shallots and garlic.
And what a fun twist on tahini dressing for falafel this would be!
This hearty kale superfood salad was the original inspiration for this orange tahini dressing. I love that kale is so sturdy and can really hold up to a decent amount of dressing. Mo dressing, mo better, amiright? The apples and cranberries were the perfect sweetness to balance out the bitterness of the greens and tahini. The perfect combo.

Mia
Great recipe! I used some orange and lemon and doubled the recipe. Super easy and tasty!
Jenn Sebestyen
Thank you, Mia! So glad you enjoyed it!
Megan
the first time I made it, it turned out great! the second time, it seized up and became unusable 🙁 do you have suggestions for when this happens with tahini?
Jenn Sebestyen
It does thicken a bit as it sits, but I’ve never had it seize up. Did you use a different brand of tahini this time? Make sure you stir the tahini really well before using. If you’re at the bottom of the jar and it wasn’t stirred well it can be too dry. I’m not sure what else might have happened. Did you try whisking in more liquid?

I made these for myself and have so much leftover. Can I keep it in the fridge? How long do you think it will last? Thanks and it was delish by the way!
Jenn Sebestyen
Yes, definitely. In an air-tight container it should keep well for up to a week. So glad you enjoy it!
Valerie St
Delish!
Jenn Sebestyen
Yay! So glad you love it!
Denice
Love it! To cut calories and fat, and add calcium (for my bone health) I do use 1/3 cup white kidney beans and 1 TBLS of tahini. VERY delicious! Thanks so much!!
Jenn Sebestyen
So glad you enjoy it, Denice. And I’ll have to try that tip with the white beans!
Dee
Great idea adding in the beans!
Nancy
Can the vinegar be replaced with anything else like lemons ?
Jenn Sebestyen
Yes, that should work fine. Lemon juice is not quite as acidic as vinegar, so just be sure to taste and adjust as necessary. Enjoy!
Coco
Delicious! I add a bit more orange juice and a dash of coconut aminos. Easy and a crowd fave
Jenn Sebestyen
That’s wonderful, Coco! I’m so glad everyone enjoys it. Thank you for your feedback.

Katrina

Jenn Sebestyen

Cindy
I made this today to drizzle over stuffed sweet potatoes with black beans and corn but did not taste the orange at all. To me it tasted like whipped up tahini. I use organic tahini and even tried using more fresh squeezed orange juice. Maybe next time I may blend in the Nutribullit whole orange segments, suprems (without the membrane) to try to enhance the orange flavor. Love making my own dressings without oil. Thanks.
Jenn Sebestyen
Hi, Cindy. Sorry it wasn’t what you expected. Every brand of tahini is different, so maybe yours has a stronger flavor. And, of course, all oranges have varying sweetness as well. You could definitely blend using whole orange segments. Let me know if that works out better for you.
Libby
Just made this and it is yummy! I added some fresh ginger for an extra punch. It’s REALLY good on arugula!
Jenn S.
I’m so glad you love it, Libby. Ginger sounds like a great addition! And I LOVE arugula!
