When I gave up coffee last year, I replaced my morning cup pot of joe with a green smoothie or green juice. It’s a healthy habit that I’ve now been able to stick with several months.
I love getting a big dose of greens in the morning. It helps me feel healthy and energized – a feeling that lasts throughout my day helping me make better choices all day long.
If you’re looking to start a green smoothie habit too, I’ve got just the book to help you – 40 Days of Green Smoothies by Becky Striepe: Kickstart your mornings with this 40 day program designed to develop your green smoothie habit!!
Keep reading to find out why it’s so awesome and to get the recipe for this dreamy blackberry smoothie
You know how healthy and nutrient dense leafy greens are and you also know that your kids (or you, for that matter) probably aren’t eating enough of them.
Adding them to smoothies is the perfect way to hide them and still reap the nutritional benefits. Becky has mastered the perfect balance of sweet fruits and leafy greens so the whole family will enjoy drinking these.
Each recipe makes enough for one – so you might want to double it up if your spouse is drinking, too, or if you’re serving littles.
40 Days of Green Smoothies
40 days! That’s 6 full weeks of smoothie recipes, including this blackberry smoothie, to start your day off on the right track. Becky includes tips throughout the book to help you stay on track and make the most of your ingredients.
She even includes weekly shopping lists for you. And most of the recipes in any given week share a lot of the same ingredients (and carry over to the following weeks) so your shopping lists are actually quite small.
Even though I’ve been on my own green smoothie kick for the last several months, I find myself falling into the habit of making the same ones over and over. I was super excited to try out Becky’s recipes and start adding some more variety to the mix!
Check out some of the super creative smoothie recipes you’ll find in this book:
- Pineapple Parfait
- Raspberry Beret
- Spicy Mango Tango
- Ginger Cherry Cream
- Tropical Chocolate Milk
- Beet Greens & Berries
Not to mention some of the classic flavors as well – all with added greens of course:

Hi Jenn, love your site! And thanks for all the smoothie recipes. I have been a smoothie lover for years and your post inspired me to get back on the wagon. I find it hard to drink cold stuff in the winter but hey I can go stand next to the heater vent!My favorite smoothie is a combo of frozen banana, a green leafy, some berries, some non-dairy milk, and a tiny shot of stevia. I’m not very precise in my measurements which leads to lots of surprises.
Jenn S.
Thank you so much, Liz! Some of the best recipes come from just tossing in ingredients without measuring – love it!

I don’t really have a “favorite” one….I throw some fruit and a little bit of spinach in there and add liquid until I get it thin enough….maybe I need some actual recipes! But I can’t eat bananas, and most recipes use them as a thickener. Any possible substitutions???
Jenn S.
Hi, Talia. Not all of them add bananas. Avocado, dairy free yogurt, nut butters, flax meal, and chia seeds are all great ways to thicken without banana. Or just use less liquid.
Pam
Do you have a suggested portion to substitute for each banana? I also can’t eat bananas and i find flax meal thickens up with time so judging the amount in the blender is tough.
Jenn S.
I would start with a tablespoon and use less liquid. Pour the liquid in slowly while the blender is running and stop when you get the consistency you are looking for. Good luck!

I have never had a smoothie which is why I need to win this e-book and buy a blender.

Jenn S.
Oh yes! I make something very similar, but I always add an apple to it. Definitely one of our faves too!
